Nothing is more attractive than a positive attitude! If you want to get married, you MUST learn to adopt one. A positive attitude is essential! Negative attitudes are counter-production to successful dating on a number of levels. Firstly, having a negative attitude colors people’s perceptions of you, and is especially deadly when making a first impression. After all, who wants to marry someone who seems perpetually depressed, moody or angry? Dates will not want to meet you again and even shadchanim will think twice about suggesting you as a shidduch, afraid of matching up a nice person with someone so dark and unhappy. Secondly, having a negative attitude prevents you from being receptive to a proper shidduch. Just as a negative attitude colors other’s perception of you, so too does a negative attitude color your perceptions of your world and of others.

Can’t Find a Date? I was talking to several wonderful women about shidduch dating and online dating, when one of them blurted out that her shadchan hadn’t set her up in months. Another one chimed in, and soon there was a chorus of complaints about how both shidduch dating and online dating is imbalanced and unfair. I grant that, as a man, I have been privileged and have more dating opportunity by nature of the system and perceived crisis.
Then an idea struck me, one that seemed intuitive to me but perhaps didn’t seem very common. When I was more involved in shidduch dating, and even online dating with websites that used shadchanim, I often made contact with the shadchan. Whenever possible I walked into her office I chose a shadchan who was as local as possible for this reason specifically and sat down to chat about her work and passions, to talk about my values, and genuinely cultivated a connection.
My impulse was to generate a connection and to listen to the shadchan’s thoughts about issues in dating, issues in her work, and even sometimes talk about our personal lives gasp!

I found it to be so inspiring that I thought to share it with you. Unfortunately there was no author attributed to it so I cannot give credit to the author of the actual article. He asked the Rosh Yeshiva the following: How many hours a day did the boy learn? Was he punctual in arriving to Seder and did he spend his time diligently? Did he come to davening on time and did he actively participate in Shiur? Did he ask relevant questions and did he understand the answers? After receiving a favorable report in regard to his questions he thanked Rav Shmuel for his time and began to leave.
At that point Rav Shmuel in his gentle and noble manner turned to father and said, until now you asked me questions, is it okay if I ask you some questions?

Forget to Forget You —— Guest Post A couple weeks ago I was sitting in shul listening to Krias HaTorah, when all of sudden, out of nowhere, a thought popped in my head.
